The Thamel region of Kathmandu is a vibrant tourist trap where travelers can imerse themselves in Nepali culture, but with many western comforts.

I planned to travel to Nepal in October 2024 to trek to Everest Base Camp. Those plans fell through. Because of poor weather conditions, planes could not fly into Lukla. I met Marcello from Brazil when we signed up for the same trek. Together, we decided to change our itinerary to the Annapurna Base Camp.

Our driver was the collect old man.
The views are stunning, even just a few minutes outside of Pokahara.
Be prepared for LONG stretches of stair climbing.
The third day started with a 5 a.m. start, climbing Poon Hill to catch the sunrise.
One of our breaks on the third day was under a rock ledge, surrounded by dozens of rock stacks.
Always step off to the uphill side of the trail so the pack animals can pass without knocking you down the slope.
On day five, I pulled the plug on our trek due to persistent dehydration. I was prepared for alpine conditions, and we spent four days in the jungle. On our way down and out, the final obstacle before catching a jeep back to town was a 300-meter-long suspension bridge.
